    Who are Calixpert ─ Daniel Flefil and Malin Malle?

    Calixpert is a Calisthenics Program developed by the Calisthenics couple Daniel Flefil and Malin Malle. Daniel is a professional athlete manager, working with other big names like Simon Imhauser, Daniel Hristov. His partner, Malin Malle is a professional Calisthenics athlete who advocates for female Calisthenics and for more women to join the sport. Together, they have ample experience on a professional level in training and managing athletes.

    Immediately after starting the free trial, you are brought to the Skool environment. You have full access immediately. Calixpert’s choice for the Skool platform means they can build a real community, which is often lacking on Calisthenics Apps.

    Community, Map

    The community page is a forum where you can share your thoughts, results and ask for advice. A very diverse community of people frequent it and engage in (friendly) discussions. You can find tips, hints and motivation here, or you can just lurk and read the comments. The Map page shows you just how diverse the community is; there are members from all over the world.

    Classroom

    The Classroom page is where all the programs are. You can select from a list of programs to follow. There are currently 17 programs to choose from, ranging from absolute beginner entry to advanced Calisthenics programs. You can also choose specialized programs to learn and master a specific Calisthenics skill.

    Leaderboard (Progress)

    The Leaderboard shows your progress and compares it to the community leaderboards. This gives you an indication of how you’re doing and how you’re stacking up with others.

    Calixpert Training Programs

    You can select from 17 programs total from the Classroom page. The variety of programs range from general Calisthenics programs for both beginners and advanced athletes to mastering specific skills. There is also a dedicated multi-course program for Female Calisthenics. I’ll walk us through a typical Calixpert Program so you know what to expect.

    A Typical Calixpert Program

    I’ve picked the True Beginner program, which is an entry point into Calisthenics for people who haven’t ever done any Calisthenics or meaningful fitness activity before. The introduction page comes with a video with Malin Malle, your hostess. Malin explains the goals and provides a program overview.

    In this case, the True Beginner program is a 4-month program for the absolute beginner (standing up from the couch just now) and getting into Calisthenics. Looking at the week-to-week layout, there are 3 exercise days, and it uses a Push-Pull Calisthenics Split routine. This is a fairly typical, beginner-friendly split. 

    There is also a list of required equipment. For this course, you need a pair of Dip Bars (or chairs) and Resistance Bands.

    The Max Test

    At the start of the beginner courses, you are given instructions on how to conduct a “Max Test”. This is a series of exercises you need to do and record your best performance on the provided spreadsheet. You repeat the same routine every 30 days to see your performance gains. Daniel explains through a video how it works, but here is the gist of it:

    There are 6 categories: hang, pull, push, dips and plank. Select the most advanced exercise (just one) from each category and perform it until failure. You record the results on the sheet.

    A Typical Calixpert Workout Day

    Each workout day has an HD video tutorial on how to perform the exercises. The schedule itself is a spreadsheet with the exercises listed along with a target number of sets and reps. All you have to do is work down the list for that day, and if you’re unsure of how an exercise is done, you can watch the video for instructions.

    The instructions are clear, and Malin (sometimes Daniel) shows you exactly how to do an exercise properly. Each exercise has an Easy and a Hard variant. She shows you how to do either, and it’s up to you which one you can handle. An absolute beginner could start with the easy versions of each exercise in the course and then repeat it with the hard versions. 

    This is not a follow-along format, and it’s left up to you to set the pace and the timing. Some people prefer a follow-along video from start to finish, but there is a case to be made for a list of exercises. With a list that you have to go through yourself, you can set your own pace. You’ll feel less pressured to keep up with the (often heavily edited) video instructor, as is the case with follow-along videos.

    I’ve tested the True Beginner course, and it’s a nice start for complete beginners who want to get into Calisthenics. I’ve also read the other programs and most are geared to getting the beginner up to speed with Calisthenics in an easy, methodical and no-pressure way.     This is just a handpicked collection, and it’s not all of them. There are more programs dedicated to individual skills, and there is a 4-course program for Female Calisthenics, too.

    An excellent progression for beginners would be True Beginner, to Beginner Program, to Calisthenics Mastery for Beginners. After these three programs, you’re no longer a beginner. You can then learn advanced skills like the Handstand and the Ring Muscle-Up.

    Conclusions About the Calixpert Calisthenics Program

    Malin Malle and Daniel Flefil put a lot of time and effort into producing Calixpert. Their expertise as athletes and trainers shows in the development of their programs. Calixpert is a good fit for beginners who want to set their own pace. Follow-along instruction videos are often heavily edited and don’t allow you to set your own pace. The simple lists, accompanied by detailed and crisp instruction videos, allow for that pace setting. 

    The Skool platform creates a community. Something that Calisthenics Apps lack. You get to share your results, see the results others got and engage in discussion with the rest.

    I recommend the Calixpert program for the absolute beginner who wants to get into Calisthenics at their own pace. If you also draw inspiration from being in a like-minded community, the Calixpert program is a nice fit for you.
