The MPDS dip belt is a heavyweight in the streetlifting and Calisthenics scene. Its heavy-duty design is informed by expert opinions from world-class streetlifters who were actively involved in MPDS’s development of the belt. From small details like round rings instead of D-rings and the ability to apply patches and differently coloured carabiner hooks, the MPDS belt is meant to be the best Dip Belt on the market. Who are MPDS

MPDS stands for “Muscle-Up, Pull-up, Dip, Squat” and is a Dutch Streetlifting brand. Specialising in Streetlifting equipment, MPDS products include knee sleeves, elbow sleeves, and grip shoes. Everything to make that next record-breaking lift more likely. The MPDS dip belt is part of that line-up.

First Look at the MPDS Dip Belt

The MPDS Dip Belt comes in one of two neat bags: a round one or a longer square one. The round duffel bag has a stiffer feel, and your belt fits inside it perfectly. The belt sits folded so that it keeps its shape. The leftover space in the centre is perfect for storing your rope, chain or daisy chain, and any spare carabiners. The bag is made of durable canvas, has a carry handle, and features the MDPS logo on the top.

The square duffel bag is larger, but you’ll need to bend your dip belt to fit it inside. The square bag also features the MDPS logo and is made of the same durable canvas as the round duffel bag.

The MPDS Dip Belt itself has everything beat in the looks department, at least. It has a prominent MPDS logo on a rubberised pad that goes on the back. The pad already feels high-quality, and so does the rest of the belt. The two MDPS logos on the front are stitched, which is superior to printed designs, which tend to fade over time (especially with muscle-ups and straight bar dips, where they rub against the bar repeatedly).

On each flank of the belt is a Velcro strip where you can add your own patches. MPDS also sells patches to showcase your achievements, like the “Muscle-Up Specialist”, “Dip Specialist”, and “Pull-Up Specialist” patches. Other patches include nation flags to identify the country you represent and more tongue-in-cheek options like an “Anti Chin-Up” patch.

You can also get carabiners in different colours. The carabiners have a proprietary design that minimises sharp edges on the hooks to prevent damage to your clothes.

You can customise your MPDS Dip Belt to a good degree with the patches (theirs or your own) and the colours for your carabiner hooks.

The belt’s rings are O-rings rather than the typical D-rings. O-rings have the benefit that they have a better weight distribution and that your weights will always hang in the same way. D-Rings tend to “flip” eventually.

The daisy chain rope is used to hang your weights on. It is an ample 150cm long, which is enough to have the weight hanging between your feet. The loops on the chain are numbered with stitched numerals. This is nice since you can quickly hang your weights at the same height every time for your different exercises (provided you remember the setting).

The padding on the inside is 1cm thick neoprene. This is a beefy belt, clearly meant to handle heavier lifts, and the thick padding is not an overindulgence, given the MPDS Dip Belt’s maximum weight capacity of 950kg.

Expert Opinion by World Champions (including Jordin Vliegen)

The MPDS Dip Belt was developed with input from Streetlifting champions Obin Chevillar, Nadine Hettinga, and Pere Coll. For instance, Obin recommended the O-rings instead of D-rings. Nadine opted for thicker padding, crucial for comfort during her heavier record attempts. Pere Coll expressed a desire for different sizes, prompting MPSD to create 6 versions of the same dip belt. So, from the very early development stages, MPDS gathered the best advice from the world’s best streetlifters to create the best Dip Belt.

Dear friend of Calisthenics Worldwide, Jordin Vliegen was also involved in the development of the MPDS Dip Belt. Jordin opined that the belt should also look like it was made for champions. MPDS hit the mark there with the sleek, high-quality look and, of course, the patches and coloured carabiner hooks.

“I think it’s a really good quality. It’s a thicker belt, so the pressure is more [spread] over the whole hip”, Vliegen remarked. Jordin Vliegen used the MPDS Dip Belt for upper-body lifts: a 25kg muscle-up, a 125kg dip and 3 reps of pull-ups at 72.5kg. Those are impressive feats and will put any belt to the test. “It all felt really solid, so I can’t wait to set some new PR’s”, Vliegen concluded.

About his input on the belt’s development, Jordin Vliegen was already satisfied with the pre-production design. He just wanted the belt to look the part, too. Vliegen added: “It needs to be like an image…if you see this, you think it looks super cool, and you can make it personal. For me, I think, the overall design made the belt a real eyecatcher”.

Exercising with the MPDS Dip Belt

You can choose from six lengths, and it pays to measure your waist before selecting the best fit. The special carabiner hooks are easy to use, and their shape already makes them want to “flip” parallel to the floor with the opening facing away from you. This helps prevent the hooks from pinching your clothes.

The O-rings are on the belt, so they won’t damage your clothes or press into your loins when you’re doing heavy lifts. The numbered daisy chain makes it easy to attach the weight to the precise height every time.

The belt felt really comfortable during my dips. The extra padding helps spread the weight across my hips, but the dip belt is still firm and doesn’t warp.

Warping is sometimes seen with cheaper, padded belts. Those are soft to begin with, but especially with a higher weight, the weights tug on the rings so much that the belt starts to warp, and really only a small strip at the centre of the belt still does its job.

But the MPDS dip belt is firm and keeps its shape well, even with more weight hanging from it. The combination of heavy canvas stitching and the neoprene liner makes for a padded belt that retains its shape under stress.

For the same heavyweight reasons, the MPDS dip belt doesn’t feature any back flaps. Wider flaps on the back do provide a little more comfort at lower weights, but if you’re doing heavy weight lifts, you want all the weight to rest on your hips, not pressing into your lower back. Streetlifting competitions like FinalRep do not allow the back flaps anyway for the same reason. That is why the MPDS dip belt, despite being padded, does not have back flaps.

And made for heavy weights, the MPDS dip belt certainly is. It has a maximum load capacity of 950kg from their lab tests, with the carabiners going up to 1000kg. I’ll never hit anywhere near those numbers, and my dips “only” went up to 50kg. The belt felt perfectly comfortable at that weight. Jordin Vliegen did a much heavier dip at 125kg (which is already competition territory), and he found the MPDS dip belt comfortable and sturdy, too.

From the heavy dips, it’s already clear that the belt feels and acts great. Just to be a completionist, I also tested the MPDS dip belt for my pull-ups, and it performed very well there as well.

Conclusions About the MPDS Dip Belt

I have no complaints about the MPDS dip belt. They really went out of their way to design the perfect dip belt, drawing on expert input from people who use dip belts every day for a living. From the ideal size padding to the belt’s shape, the rings, and the carabiners, MPDS managed to gather it all and create a sleek-looking belt. You also get as close as it gets to a tailored belt with the 6 size options.

The MPDS dip belt also looks the part. The pre-production versions were great, but they looked like any other dip belt at a passing glance. The simple addition of the patches makes the MPDS dip belt stand out in a good way. The logo on the back also looks high-quality. It’s enough to stand out, but in typical “Dutch fashion”, they didn’t go overboard with the colours and shapes, either. This is a genuine, high-quality product that deserves to stand out.

I like the blue liner colour, but I could envision MPDS offering other colour options as well, for instance, the same red as the accents in their logo.

Everything about this belt seems both heavy-duty and high-quality. I enjoyed exercising with the MPDS dip belt and will be using it more often from now on.
