Eric Flag Pull-Up Bar Review 2024

Thee guys hanging on the Eric Flag Traction Barre

The Eric Flag Pull Up Bar has an impressive number of positive reviews on sites like Trust Pilot, and this sliding Pull-Up Bar does promise a lot of versatility. I decided I had to buy the Eric Flag Pull Up Bar myself and tell you all about my findings. I gave the people over with Eric Flag in France (where it is called the Eric Flag Traction Barre) some of my money and waited for 5 days for my package to arrive. I can already tell you that this is one of the better Free Standing Pull-Up Bars I’ve used, so read on to find out all the ins and outs of the Eric Flag Pull Up Bar.

Initial Unboxing

My package came in after 5 days, which is 1 day longer than advertised coming from France to the Netherlands. The box was in great condition and all the individual parts came covered in their own plastic sheet. The nuts, bolts and washers were further sealed in a plastic package. Shipping was free, fast enough and did a good job getting the package to my door in one piece (well, it’s not assembled so theoretically not in one piece, but it’s all there and undamaged).

Assembly

Once laid out in front of you, you realize that there are quite a few nuts and bolts to this, literally, and that you have some work on your hands. You do get a simple step-by-step assembly guide, so I stepped up to the challenge of assembling this multifunctional Pull-Up Bar. Here’s the best way to assemble your Eric Flag Pull Up Bar:

Important note: It is easier to watch our video review (at the beginning of this blog). There, you can watch the full assembly instructions.

Step 1: the Base

  • Arrange the Feet (2x) parallel to each other with the Connecting Bars (2x) between them forming a square.
  • Place the Connecting Plates (4x) over the holes through the Feet and through the Connecting Bars on the other end.
  • Insert a bolt (8x) in each hole and apply a washer (8x). Fasten the nuts (8x) to 60% first.
  • Once all bolts and nuts are placed and while making sure the base is square, fasten the nuts to 100% in a crisscross pattern.

Step 2: the Vertical Columns left and right

  • Insert the nuts (2x) through the holes of the Connecting Plate (1x) and the Vertical Column (1x).
  • Place the Vertical Column on the Base with the holes in the side facing OUTWARD, working the protruding bolts through the holes. Place a washer (2x) and apply the nuts (2x) to 60% tight.
  • Repeat on the other side.

Step 3: fixing the Supporting Plates left and right

  • Place the Supporting Plates (2x) on either side of the Vertical Column where the column meets the Base.
  • Place a bolt (5x) through the outside Supporting Plate, the Vertical Column and inside Supporting Plate.
  • Place a washer over each bolt and apply the nuts (5x) to 60% tight.
  • Repeat on the other side.

Once you are certain that the Vertical Columns are perfectly plumb and perpendicular to the floor, tighten all the nuts on the Supporting Plates and those going through the Base (Step 2) to 100%.

Step 4: Support Bars

  • Place a bolt through the hole in the Base roughly half-way between the Vertical Column and the edge. Place a Supporting Strut over the nut and rest it against the Vertical Column.
  • Place a bolt through the hole corresponding with the hole in the Supporting Strut. Place the washers and nuts and tighten to 60%.
  • Repeat on the other side.

Once you are certain again that the Vertical Columns are still plumb, tighten all nuts to 100%.

Step 5: Slide Columns

  • Place the Slide Columns (2x) over the Vertical Columns, making sure the holes line up.
  • Place the bolts, washer and nuts and tighten to 60%.
  • Tighten the nuts to 100% in a crisscross pattern.

The Eric Flag Pull Up Bar is now fully assembled, only requiring you to slide on the adjustable Pull-Up Bar or adjustable Multi-Grip Bar over the top. The assembly did take us a while and there are quite a few steps you must go through before it’s finished. The individual steps are easy, there are just a lot of them.

Height Adjustment

You can slide the adjustable Pull-Up Bar, or adjustable Multi-Grip Pull Up Bar up and down to any desired height. To adjust the height:

  1. Unscrew the bolts on each side of the Pull-Up Bar.
  2. Pull on both bolts simultaneously to unlock the pins.
  3. You can now move the bar up and down freely. Note that there will be some resistance. This will get smoother over time.
  4. Once the desired height is reached the pins will fall into place with an audible click.
  5. Fasten the screws again for a secure fit. You don’t have to fasten the screws very tightly; they are only there to prevent the pins from accidentally popping out.

Adjusting the height goes very quick and is often done within 10 seconds. The bar slides in such a way that you cannot accidentally fasten it diagonally as the bar does not have enough diagonal give so that the nuts would align with different corresponding holes.

Adjusting the height often will lead to scratching as the pins travel over the powder coated steel until they fall into place. This is a tradeoff for having an adjustable free-standing Pull-Up Bar, but the adjustability is very convenient.

First Impressions

At first glance, the Eric Flag Pull Up Bar is very sleek and minimalist. There is plenty of maneuver room around the bar and not a lot of protrusions for you to get caught on. The base is very low and not too much of a trip hazard, either. Almost the whole bar is made of powder-coated steel, with only a few caps being plastic or rubber and that don’t influence the bar’s structural integrity.

Fit & Finish

The fit and finish on the Eric Flag Pull Up Bar is very good. The powder coating is even and without any scratches and dinks when it came in. Even after some use and readjusting the top bar, I still couldn’t find any scratching. An emblem plate adorns each Vertical Column, which is also metal with the brand’s logo and name on it.

Feel & Stability

The coating has a satin finish, which feels nice on the hands when gripping it or when gliding your hands over its surface. It is one of the best feeling all-steel constructions I’ve touched yet and certainly up there with competitors like the Gravity Fitness Pull-Up Bar

Stability is all right for a free-standing design. These designs will always have a bit of a pitch and rack to them, especially when you use the bar at its highest. It is much more stable when the bar is set lower, like a Static Bar. This wobble will never be fully eliminated with a free-standing design like this.

The wide base and non-stick rubber caps provide for a safe and stable exercise platform, despite any perceived wobble. I found it stable enough for all my Calisthenics.

Dimensions & Capacity

For the basic Eric Flag Pull Up Bar the dimensions are:

  • Base: 116 cm x 106 cm
  • Top Bar Height: 105cm Static Bar, adjustable 110cm to 210 cm in 10 cm increments
  • Top Bar Width: 94 cm
  • Bar diameter: 38 mm
  • Weight: 28.5 kg
  • Weight Capacity: 300 kg

The Adjustable Multi-Grip Bar dimensions are:

  • Bar diameter: 38 mm
  • Width: 94 cm
  • Dip Handles: 23 cm

Exercises

I did my whole Calisthenics repertoire (as far as Pull-Up Bar exercises go) with the Eric Flag Pull-Up Bar and it lived up very well. You can confidently do your Pull-Ups, Chin-Ups and Muscle-Ups (I didn’t mind the slight wobble). Pull-Overs and Skin the Cat, and exercises like them, will induce a little more movement from the bar, but nothing too serious. Bottom to top exercises like knee raises and toe touches are also fine.

If you want, you could add weight to the base like sandbags or cement bags or anything else that doesn’t scratch. I didn’t personally find it necessary.

The Eric Flag Pull Up Bar comes with the standard 105 cm Static Bar setting, which is great for Straight Bar Dips and normal Dips if you get the Multi-Grip Bar (which is what I recommend you do). This also makes Rows and L-sits possible or the more advanced Front Levers and Back Levers.

Curiously, doing side-to-side exercises like Archer Pull-Ups or Windshield Wipers incur less movement than up and down exercises like Muscle-Ups. That is of course a positive thing so I’m not complaining.

Its weight capacity of 300 kg means Weighted Calisthenics is a possibility for the Eric Flag Pull-Up Bar, which combined with its versatility (especially with the Multi-Grip Bar) makes for a very rich Calisthenics experience.

I also liked doing Gymnastic Rings exercises, like my Ring Muscle Ups.

Eric Flag Pull Up Bar Pricing Overview

The Eric Flag Pull Up Bar is modestly priced, comparable in price to quality ratio to other higher end brands like GORNATION, Pullup & Dip and Gravity Fitness. The main selling point of the Eric Flag Pull Up Bar compared to its direct equivalents is the quick adjustability, which offers the added value that justifies a slightly higher price than a more uniform Pull-Up Bar. The prices for the Eric Flag Pull Bar are as follows:

  • Eric Flag Pull Up Bar: €195.-
  • Eric Flag Pull Up Bar + Multi-Grip Bar: €226.-
  • Multi-Grip Bar Alone: €57.90

I like the Dip Bar addition a lot and would recommend getting the Pull Up Bar and Multi-Grip Bar combination to save yourself money getting it later. There are also combination packages with things like Gymnastic Rings and chalk included.

Any order above €50.- within Europe is shipped for free, so for this product you won’t pay for shipping.

Eric Flag Pull Up Bar Reviews & Trust Pilot

As you can tell, I really liked exercising with the Eric Flag Pull Up Bar. I can do all my Calisthenics with it as far as Pull-Up Bar exercises go, it’s of a high quality and the easy adjustment sliding top bar makes it more convenient. But I always like to think that informed wisdom is drawn from many sources, and as far as you are concerned, I am just one voice as a Calisthenics coach. I always encourage you to also look at customer reviews.

The Eric Flag Pull Up Bar has over 100 reviews, scoring an average of 4.8 out of 5. Of course, this is their own platform so you should cross-reference this number. When we look at Trustpilot, this Pull-Up Bar has over 1000 reviews with the same average score of 4.8 out of 5. Those are a lot reviews, and both sites independently come to the same conclusion. This says a lot about his trustworthiness as a brand and how satisfied people are with their purchase.

Conclusions About the Eric Flag Pull Up Bar

Color me impressed by this Eric Flag Pull Up Bar. I enjoyed all my exercises and never felt I had to hold back in any way. It is stable, strong and the materials are of a high quality. Adjusting the height goes very quickly, as advertised by Eric Flag. Aside from all the basic exercises, more advanced exercises are also possible on this Pull-Up Bar and switching between them is made easier with the quick-adjust sliding bar. Of course, it will be more stable with the bar slid to a lower position, and that’s just the nature of the beast.

As a Static Bar this Pull Up Bar is perfect and that’s what I’ll say is how you see it: a Static Bar with the ability to convert into a Pull Up Bar, giving you the full range of exercise versatility. If you’re interested in this versatile combination, check out the Eric Flag Pull Up Bar. You won’t be disappointed.
