Key Takeaways

  • The Eric Flag Dip Bars are compact and functional, making them stable, standalone dip bars.
  • You can do your dips, but also use a single bar as a mini static bar for levers, muscle-ups and rollovers.
  • You can do weighted Calisthenics, ideally wearing a Weighted Vest, since the bars can handle up to 250kg.

Assembly & First Look

  • Height: 90cm
  • Length (usable): 52cm
  • Diameter: 38mm
  • Maximum capacity: 250kg

The Eric Flag Dip Bars ship in 4 parts: two handles and two feet. You assemble them easily by sliding the handles into the feet and then tightening a hex-head screw. I had mine assembled in three minutes and ready to go.

I like the modern, sleek powder-coated steel look in black. This type of coating usually gives a really nice grip as well. It comes with two chunky anti-slip feet. They’re not that important on Dip Bars, but it can never hurt. It also helps protect your floor from scratching. The Eric Flag is printed onto the feet in a crisp, matte white.

The 38mm grips are still nice and thick for your push exercises, but still on the thinner side when compared to other dip bars. With a height of 90cm, the Eric Flag Dip Bars are again on the lower end of dip bars but still high enough for your dips. The usable length on each bar before the rounded corner is around 52cm.

This all makes the Eric Flag Dip Bars pretty compact and on the smaller end of dip bars. However, they are the minimum viable dimensions for dip bars.

Testing the Eric Flag Dip Bars

Of course, I have to bend my knees when doing my dips. This is normal with these kinds of standalone, compact dip bars. Having an extra 5cm or 10cm height than the 90cm I get would have been nice for a slightly deeper dip. However, even at those heights, you still have to bend your knees, of course. So, the Eric Flag Dip Bars is high enough for dips.

Doing my off-the-floor work, like L-Sits or even some tucked planches, these bars remain stable. Only if I intentionally racked them to the side will they, of course, topple. This won’t be a problem during normal use.

I like to use my dip bars as a makeshift (mini) Static Bar. Dip bars are obviously not static bars, but it’s nice to do some of the same exercises during the same workout without having to switch equipment.

At only 90cm tall, I have to start my muscle-ups by basically sitting on the floor. My arms are already bent almost 45 degrees when I start the muscle-up, so you won’t get a full range of motion muscle-up. But, with a little bending here and there, it is really possible to do a muscle-up without touching the floor with your legs.

Another exercise I like to sneak in after doing my dips is levers. I can do my front- and back lever on these dip bars. Doing a skin-the-cat is quite a tight squeeze, and I have to move my head to the side to fit through. Back Lever Raises are not possible, and you’ll plant your forehead into the ground.

Being on the low side doesn’t impact your push exercises at all. You can still do your dips, after all, which is what these bars are meant for. Below the bar, exercises like levers, muscle-ups and rows are also possible, but it can be a tight squeeze if you want to fit through entirely, like with a muscle-up or skin-the-cat.

I already found these bars quite stable, but the rollover was the real test, and it stayed stable as well. That is about all the stability you can expect from single dip bar.

The powder-coated surface provides a nice, tactile feel. The wide base with long feet gives you stability, but it also makes the bars too far apart for me when I put them exactly side by side. Instead, I offset them slightly, and it works well.

All in all, I like the Eric Flag Dip Bars for my exercises sofar. They do everything I need them to do, and they can more or less double as mini static bars.

Weighted Calisthenics and Resistance Bands

With a maximum capacity of 250kg, you can easily do your Weighted Calisthenics on the Eric Flag Dip Bars. The limitation is its height of only 90cm, which makes it not ideal for use with a Dip Belt. Instead of a belt, using a Weighted Vest works great.

Conversely, you can also use Resistance Bands to make the exercise easier instead of harder. For this, a height of 90cm is enough for the bands to stretch and take some of your weight off.

Conclusions About the Eric Flag Dip Bars

There is nothing bad I can say about the Eric Flag Dip Bars. They don’t stand out, and they’re not uniquely shaped or stable. However, they get the job done. They’re just high enough for a dip bar to do a full range of motion dips, and that’s what they are intended for. The Eric Flag Dip Bars have a nice powder-coated grip, are stable enough for even rollovers, and have a sleek, industrial look.

The only downside, again, is the limited height, which makes their use as mini static bars not great. But that’s not what this type of dip bar is meant for, and most others will have the same problem. That’s why I recommend the Eric Flag Dip Bars for your Calisthenics Home Equipment.
