The DMoose Ab Roller makes full ab rollouts accessible, even if you’re not an elite athlete. With a bracing system and rests for your elbows, you can learn ab rollouts immediately and cut down on the time it takes you to master this technique. DMoose is a U.S. company that makes a lot of fitness and Calisthenics equipment for reasonably affordable prices. In this review, we’ll take a look at the DMoose Ab Roller and how it can help you learn the seemingly easy yet incredibly tricky ab rollout exercise.

🔑Key Takeaways

  • The DMoose Ab Roller is a useful tool for learning the ab rollout.
  • You can progressively learn the ab rollout technique on the comfortable elbow rests and braces.
  • The DMoose Ab Roller is of good quality, rolls smoothly, and is easy to hold and keep stable while exercising.
  • You will need another ab roller to “graduate” the progression exercises to the proper, unassisted ab rollout.
  • DMoose pricing can change drastically over time.

First Look at the DMoose Ab Roller

At first glance, I get two impressions from the DMoose Ab Roller. I like the red-and-black colour scheme. It looks nice, and the red isn’t overbearing in the design. At the same time, the components appear somewhat plasticky, particularly the large, high-gloss surfaces of the wheel rims. It all feels solid, though, just when handling the ab roller. If you look hard enough, you can even find a few DMoose logos on the handle and elbow pads, but they are easy to miss.

The wheel is 10cm wide with an overly rough tread that is more for show than functionality. The width is quite nice, though and is easy to balance on the floor during your exercises. The handles are 27mm, which is already on the thinner end. They are also foam, so they might squish to an even thinner girth when you’re actually holding them. Later, we’ll show that it doesn’t matter much, since most of your weight will be supported by the elbow rests, and the handles are really just there for balance.

Exercising with the DMoose Ab Roller

Using the DMoose Ab Roller is quite comfortable due to the padded handles and elbow rests. You really don’t need thicker handles, since you won’t be putting much pressure on them anyway. Your elbows lie cupped on the rests, and this takes most of your weight.

You can really focus on the exercise itself and perfect your technique, without any distractions from pain and discomfort. A perfect technique from the get-go also means you can lean deeper into each ab rollout, stretching those muscles and improving your gains.

The farther up the grips you hold the DMoose Ab Roller, the easier the exercise becomes. Consequently, you can make this a progression exercise by holding the handles ever closer to the wheel. You’ll have less and less support from the elbow rests that way, until you don’t need them anymore.

The wheel runs pretty smoothly, though we’ve seen smoother-running ab rollers. It’s never a problem during exercises, though, and the wheel spins smoothly enough. The tread on the wheel doesn’t do much, but the material’s rubber texture is very tactile. It gives a good grip on the floor when we tried it on both a hard, smooth floor and on gym mats. In both cases, the DMoose Ab Roller has enough grip to continue running smoothly.

You also receive a pair of knee pads (which can be easily lost) to protect your knees when exercising on a hard floor.

The DMoose Ab Roller allows you to progress from beginner to almost mastering the ab rollout. I say almost, because there are no horizontal handles on it. The closest you can get to an unsupported ab rollout is to hold the handles near the wheel. However, that rubs your hands up against the moving rim. Technically, you can never “graduate” to a standalone, full ab rollout with only the DMoose Ab Roller. For this, you would need another ab roller without the braces and elbow rests.

DMoose Ab Roller Leg Exercises

One additional benefit of the elbow rests is that they can also be leg rests. The DMoose Ab Roller works very well with leg exercises, where most other ab rollers would simply be too unstable to be practical. On the DMoose Ab Roller, you can easily do additional exercises like Mountain Climbers and Glute Bridges.

Pricing of the DMoose Ab Roller

Unfortunately, DMoose tends to adjust its prices as its inventory levels fluctuate. That makes setting a single price here tricky, as fluctuations can be significant. Check here to see the current price on their store:

Conclusions About the DMoose Ab Roller

The DMoose Ab Roller is certainly a useful tool to have if you want to get into ab roller exercises. Doing ab rollouts is a great way to build core and abdominal muscles. The long, stretching movements tone the abs for that refined, chiselled look. Ab rollouts are notoriously difficult to master, though. A tool like the DMoose Ab Roller helps you achieve that technique much more quickly, while also providing a lot of assisted ab rollout techniques and progressions that are themselves great for building abdominal muscles.

Is it perfect? No. You can’t do the proper, unassisted ab rollout very well on the DMoose Ab Roller. You would need another, unsupported ab roller for that. DMoose is not perfect with its pricing either, fluctuating as its stock goes up and down. However, it is a useful tool in your shed of Calisthenics equipment to get that one specific task done.
