- Frequently Asked Questions About PUAD’s Mobile Pullup and Dip Bar
An all-in-one Pullup and Dip Bar that is also mobile and ready for indoor and outdoor use? It is time to look at Pullup and Dip’s Mobile Bar, a mobile pullup and dip bar meant for indoor and outdoor use. We’ve already owned the brand’s namesake for over 8 years, buying it when the Pullup and Dip Bar first came out during its crowdfunding. This mobile bar has undergone upgrades, such as a new powder-coated surface. That has prompted us to review the Pullup and Dip Bar by PUAD.

About The Pullup and Dip Bar by PUAD Updates
This is the product that PUAD started crowdfunding for all those years ago. The Pull-up and Dip Bar is an all-in-one solution for both pull and push exercises (almost all-in-one, we’ll get to that). Depending on the orientation, turning the bar around on its mounting platform transforms it into a Wall Pull-Up Bar or Dip Bar. Upward means you have sufficient height for your pull-ups, and downward makes the bars low enough for dips.
We bought our Pullup and Dip Bar over 8 years ago and have always enjoyed exercising with it. PUAD has since introduced a few upgrades, which we have also bought for this review.
The old version had blank, polished metal handles. Pullup and Dip have upgraded this to powder-coated steel handles, which improve grip. They have also introduced two straight bar handles as alternatives to the multi-pronged ones.
Wall Mounting The Pullup and Dip Bar
For a wall mount, the Mobile PUAD Bar relies on a high-gauge trapezoid adapter plate that is fastened directly onto the wall with 7 concrete screwbolts. This requires pre-drilling the holes, but the installation is straightforward. Here’s how we did it:
- Hold the adapter plate flush against the wall, with the broader part facing up. Use a spirit level to ensure the adapter plate is level.
- Use a pencil or marker to mark the locations of the screwbolts. Remove the adapter plate.
- Pre-drill the holes for the screwbolts one size smaller than the size of the screwbolts.
- Place the adapter plate against the wall, tap the first screwbolt lightly into the bottom hole, and hand fasten using a wrench.
- Repeat for the top left and top right holes and hand fasten.
- Apply the remaining screwbolts. Once you have them all hand-tight, apply more torque on each for a secure fit.
Insert the Mobile Pull-Up Bar itself. The arm extension has three lugs that can only be mounted onto the wall plate, either right side up or upside down (Pull-Up Bar or Dip Bar configurations). Fasten the additional security pin by twisting it, lowering it in place and twisting it back.
Pullup and Dip Bar Dimensions and First Look
Here are the basic dimensions for the Pullup and Dip Bar:
- Bar Length (Total): 103.5cm
- Parallel Grips Spacing: 46.5cm to 59.5cm
- Wall Offset: 40cm
- Grip Diameter: 31mm
- Adapter plate: 32×29.5cm
- Weight Capacity: 150kg
I like the look of the new black powder-coated grips. They’re a significant improvement over the previous polished metal grips in terms of grip and look. The new straight bar inserts also look good, but I like the multi-prong grips better for a first impression.
Exercising Indoors with the Pullup and Dip Wall Pull-Up Bar
The Pullup and Dip Bar offers many exercise options. The slanted grips allow for regular and wide-grip Pull-Ups and Chin-Ups. The parallel grips also slant outward, giving you a variety of widths between 46.5 and 59.5 centimeters.
Pullups and Chinups
The wall offset of 40cm is enough for clearing controlled Pull-Ups and Chin-Ups. Explosive movements where your lower body tends to move back and forth more can cause your feet or behind to grace the wall.
The adapter plate must hang around face height to fully use both pulling and pushing exercises. This is a slight compromise, as the Pullup and Dip Bar is lower than a regular Pull-Up Bar. If you mount the adapter plate higher, it becomes too high to be an efficient Dip Bar.
This means you need to bend your knees slightly during Pull-Ups and Chin-Ups. It’s not even a tuck, but do keep that in mind. I had no problem with the ceiling during regular or explosive Pull-Ups.
Dips
Speaking of dips, the transition to a Dip Bar is fast and easy. I had it at the perfect height for regular dips. You have to hop onto it just a bit, which gives you the ideal ground clearance for a full-depth dip. For weighted dips, a box or stool is in order. Because the arm on which the bar rests is diagonal, there is enough room for your upper body to come forward when facing the wall.
Muscle-Ups
The design of the Pullup and Dip Bar is not ideal for Muscle-Ups. The pull-up is fine, and the straight bar dip would also work. However, your chest can hit the diagonal arm before transitioning from the pull-up to the dip phase. This can also be a thing during explosive pull-ups, and a muscle-up needs a pull-up explosive enough for it to happen as well.
Even if you get past this, getting your shoulders through the parallel bars is still a tight squeeze.
Resistance Bands
Resistance Bands pair nicely with the Pullup and Dip Bar for exercises like assisted pull-ups and assisted chin-ups. If your feet hit the floor (without bending your knees a little), you should wrap the band once or twice around the bar to shorten it.
Gymnastic Rings
Using Gymnastic Rings, I noticed that I always hit the wall with dips, whether facing or turned away from the wall. The Pullup and Dip Bar is also too low for Ring Pull-Ups or Ring Muscle-Ups. Dips are possible if you do them with care, but they are not ideal. Side-way exercises like rows are still possible.
Straight Bar Grips
The new straight bar grips maximize your options for a regular grip, whether pronated or supinated. With a total bar length of 104.5 cm, you can go as wide or narrow as you please. It features the same powder coating that gives you a good grip. Muscle-ups are more manageable with the straight bar if your ceiling is high enough, but you still tend to grace the wall unless you control your movements.
Tree Mounting The Pullup and Dip Bar
Any ceiling problems disappear when you take the Pullup and Dip Bar outside to hug a tree. The tree mount is a separate piece that wraps around the trunk of a sturdy tree and gets strapped down tightly. A similar, rectangular adapter plate is present, and you can use the Pullup and Dip Bar in both directions.
Setting up my outdoor mobile Pullup and Dip Bar took mere minutes.
Exercising Outdoors with the Pullup and Dip Wall Pull-Up Bar
The tree mount is very stable, and you can do the same exercises outside as you do inside. Muscle-ups are the easiest when using a tree. You spread your legs and cradle the tree, which makes enough room for your body to tilt forwards and backwards during the movement. Only if you induce side-to-side movements will you feel that this setup is less stable than the wall mount.
Regarding portability, the Pullup and Dip Bar is not that heavy, and it comes apart into transportable components. Disassembled, the tree mount, diagonal arm and grips fit inside a larger duffel bag quite easily.

Conclusions About The Pullup and Dip Bar
We’ve liked the Mobile Pullup and Dip Bar for over 8 years, and it’s still going strong. The new addition of powder-coated grips significantly improves your grip and the product’s overall aesthetics. We are fans of the multi-prong grips, and the straight bar grips are an all-right addition for doing muscle-ups outside.
The wall-mounted adapter plate is thin enough not to impede the room’s useability. You could even hide it with a painting or print when not in use. The tree mount is light and strong, and together with the wall mount, the Pullup and Dip Bar allows you to do your exercises anywhere. Switching between pull-up and dip modes is easy, and the mounting lugs and security pin guarantee a perfect lock every time.
The great variety of exercises you can do with the Pullup and Dip Bar, good stability, and excellent quality (ours has held up for 8 years now with no problems at all) means the Mobile Pullup and Dip Bar by PUAD gets our solid recommendation.
